Project Outreach: Trials and Tribulations of Beginning a Group

As part of MAGPS Project Outreach, we are pleased to offer a group targeted at both beginning group therapists and those with more experience who would like some support and guidance during the process of beginning a new group.

This is an 8 week group to discuss and support the process of starting a new group.  Beginning a new group is among the most difficult aspects of group therapy. Convincing potential members of the value and safety of groups and then creating a culture where members can work is the time when the therapist must be most active and impactful. This can be a challenge for both novice and experienced therapists.

The group is offered by Carolyn Angelo, LICSW. She is a graduate of the Washington School of Psychiatry’s Group Psychotherapy Training Program, a long time member and past president of MAGPS have been a Certified Group Psychotherapist through AGPA.

The group will meet in Dupont Circle at 1616 18th Street NW. Suite 206.   It will starting the week of September 7, 2015 and continue for 8 weeks.   The group is provided free as an Outreach benefit to members of MAGPS .

Two possible meeting times are Tuesdays from 3:30 to 4:45 or Fridays from 12:15 to 1:30.  If you are interested in joining, contact me at 202 236 0072 or
