Fall Conference at the Tides Inn

lighthouse666x500To Thine Own Self Be True: Translating YOUR Theory Into Better Group Technique

Dr. Scott Rutan

Friday, Saturday and Sunday:
November 13, 14, & 15, 2015
Tides Inn, Irvington, VA
Because technique inevitably follows theory in our work as group therapists, it is important to know ourselves and to be able to identify the theory that works best for us.  Dr. Scott Rutan will encourage us to clarify the theory we most trust.  Using that theory, we will consider how to hear the therapy process in a way that translates to better technique, resulting in an increased ability to tolerate more intense emotions in sessions as well as increased comfort with difficult group members.   The conference will include a didactic presentation, a demonstration group, small groups and a large group experience.  There will be time for questions as well as time for supportive and engaging collegial interaction.

Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will be able to distinguish between intuition and theory
  2. Participants will be able to identify the theory they most trust
  3. Participants will be able to use their preferred theory to translate the therapy process into better technique
  4. Participants will be able to better manage intense emotions, difficult individuals and dynamics within the group
