Dr. Rutan has a remarkable career of eminence in the field of group psychotherapy. In brief, he has been the Past President of AGPA and NSGP and a Distinguished Fellow of AGPA. He is the co-founder of the Boston Institute for Psychotherapy and the founder of the Center for Group Psychotherapy at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is the lead author of Psychodynamic Group Psychotherapy (5th Edition), the author of many articles and book chapters, and leader of innumerable workshops and presentations on dozens of issues. Recent book chapters have addressed: “The Psychotherapy of Hope: the Legacy of Persuasion and Healing”; and “Treating Difficult Patients in Groups”.
