Dear MAGPS Member,
I hope this email finds you and those you love both healthy and safe during this time of crisis. As we all scramble to wash our hands more frequently, practice social distancing, and transition to online groups (and more screen time), we wanted to reach out because we need each other now more than ever. As you are aware, we had to cancel our Spring Conference, which left the Conference Committee and Board feeling quite disappointed. We all enjoy getting together at Saint Elizabeths Hospital in the spring to learn new things. Nonetheless, we strongly believe it was our moral obligation to carefully evaluate our plans, stay put, and minimize the risk of being infected or passing the virus to others. We hope that by delaying gratification, we can help “flatten the curve” and reduce the impact of the virus on our community and healthcare system.
Regarding our MAGPS Community specifically, we know and have learned that many of our members were affected, and some contracted the virus during the AGPA meeting in New York. Our thoughts are with them as they make their way through recovery. Additionally, we wanted to recognize and thank our members who are on the front lines and at risk of exposure, in their roles caring for patients at local hospitals and medical centers. Fortunately, at this time we are not aware of any loss of life among members and are hopeful that we may all stay safe.
Moving forward, we wanted to invite you to the following virtual events. Please save the dates! We miss you and want to stay connected.
- A Virtual Townhall & Community Meeting on the weekend of April 18-19, 2020 (exact time and date TBD). The agenda will be sent out within the next few days.
- Our Cinemas Series is going virtual (not viral)! Join us for a Netflix Watch Party at the beginning of May. Two of our board members, Lenore Pomerance and Jackie Darby, are organizing the event and will be sending us more information.
Finally, we love to hear from you! Although many of us are overwhelmed, it has been nice to see members connecting through our listserv. Posts have included questions about telehealth group resources, how to remove/edit names from Zoom groups, how to incorporate new members into groups, members' experiences leading groups via teletherapy, etc. Please, continue to use our listserv email@example.com and help us all stay connected.
