The Favorite Patient:
The Group Therapist's Dilemma

Guest Presenter: Ellen Weber Libby, PhD.

Saturday & Sunday, April 24-25, 2010

To have favorites is normal. All of us have favorites -- we have favorite parents, grandparents, teachers, and colleagues. And we have favorite patients, too! But what happens in psychotherapy groups when everyone knows who is the therapist's favorite -- EXCEPT for the therapist?.

Dr. Ellen Weber Libby, author of The Favorite Child (to be released in January 2010), will lead our exploration of this complex and often overlooked subject. "At each person's core are feelings about being chosen, not chosen, or overlooked. These feelings profoundly impact dynamics among people, both in families and psychotherapy groups."

Dr. Libby maintains a private practice in Washington, DC, where she has spent 60,000 hours working with clients individually and in groups. Some of her groups have been on-going for over 30 years. Her blog, "The Favorite Child: A Psychologist Views Family Dynamics'" is published on psychologytoday.com.
